Principal's Message

Dear Zamorano Staff, Parents, and Community Members:

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! I hope your summer has been one of relaxation and rejuvenation and that you are ready for what promises to be an exciting new year for our Zamorano community. I am pleased and honored to have been selected as Principal. I look forward to joining the teachers, support staff, students, families and the community to continue your work in facilitating improved achievement -and creating life-long learners.

I would like to take this opportunity to share with you a portion of my background. I am a native of San Diego and I am the fifth of nine children. I am a product of the San Diego Unified School District, attending Lowell Elementary, Memorial Junior High, and San Diego High School. My family is an important part of my life and I am currently enjoying more than 40 years of marriage with my husband, Billy King. Together we have two biological children, Tenesha and Billy, and a host of extended children that we have raised. I have seven grandchildren, four live in Las Vegas, and our three adoptive grandchildren live in San Diego. I enjoy reading, dancing, attending the movies, active church membership, swimming, and laughing as much as possible.

Professionally, I have worked in San Diego Unified School District for 15 years. I taught second and fourth grade at Johnson and Fulton Elementary Schools. Along with my classroom teaching experience, I have served as a Reading Recovery Teacher, Staff Developer, Vice Principal at Encanto and Principal at Fulton K-8 for the past seven years. My wide range of experiences have enabled me to gain valuable knowledge in serving the needs of both general and special education students in diverse communities.

My goal for this year is to support the decisions you make, to ensure a bright future for each student at Zamorano. To begin this endeavor, I will start by getting to know our staff, students, parents, and members of our community. I will support our students instructionally, socially and emotionally by providing the support necessary for a well-balanced, quality education.

I know that many of you are probably thinking about the start of school in some way. However, I sincerely hope that you are taking time to relax, renew, and refresh in preparation for the new school year beginning in September.

I look forward to greeting the staff on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 and your children on our first day of school Tuesday, September 7, 2010.

Please know how important you are the process of creating an exemplary program filled with extraordinary achievement for all children. You have my commitment to work toward achieving an outstanding 2010-2011 school-year.

Please feel free to contact me for assistance when our office staff return to work on August 25, 2010 at 619 267-8007 x2116.

Sincerely,

Caroline King
